Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan (VMA NNN) is a comprehensive eye care centre having eye hospitals at Chaitanyapur (near Haldia), Purba Medinipur, and Chandi (near Amtala), South 24 Parganas established in 1994 and 2014 respectively.
VMA NNN occupies a very significant place among the service units of the Mission Asram. It is providing eye care services to approximately 15 million populations in the surrounding areas. Majority of them live in villages. They have low affordability and poor access to health care. The hospitals render following sub-specialty services.

Patients treated in OPD, Vision Centres and outreach camps are around 2, 30,000 and more than 26,000 surgeries are performed every year. About 60% of total surgeries are offered free of cost. It attracts patients from different districts of West Bengal, neighboring states of Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and the neighboring country like Bangladesh .The high volume speaks for its quality of service at an affordable cost provided to the common people.
The Netra Niramay Niketan conducts training for Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Ophthalmic Nurses and other allied ophthalmic personnel. Apart from students in regular courses candidates also come from different hospitals in India and Bangladesh for customized trainings.
It renders regular services by running clinics at base hospitals. It reaches out to the community throughout the year by conducting outreach screening camps and running 18 vision centers (primary eye care centres). Through camps and vision centres 70,000 (approx.) out patients receive treatment and around 11,000 pts are brought to the base hospital per year for free surgeries. Camp services are offered free of cost. It also conducts large scale School Eye Health & Low Vision Screening projects and renders services to around 150,000 children per year. Special outreach programme is conducted for screening Diabetic Retinopathy & Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).
VMA Netra Niramaya Niketan started its journey by providing comprehensive eye care services to the community. This hospital introduced Intra Ocular Lens implantation in this part of West Bengal. Gradually different sub-specialties were added from time to time according to the requirement of the community and now the hospital has been developed into a tertiary level eye care centre. Presently, Glaucoma, Cornea retina, Low vision, Contact lens and a Child eye care departments are functioning at the hospital.
NNN has a team of 310 dedicated and qualified staff, including 18 full time residential doctors to provide medical care to the underprivileged. VMA NNN understood the need of the community. To overcome the barriers of service the hospital holds outreach screening camps for poor patients through which nearly 11,000 surgeries are conducted annually at base hospital. Relationship with the dedicated volunteers in community is one of the major strengths of the organization. NNN has 18 vision centers managed by trained ophthalmic persons and are constantly supported by the base hospital. These centers have provided services to nearly 60,000 patients in the year 2019. Most vision centers are financially self-sustainable with full cost recovery.
The hospital has a multi-tier pricing system to accommodate patients from different strata of the society. There are separate facilities for free and paying patients.
