Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan (VMA NNN) is a comprehensive eye care centre having hundred bedded eye hospital at Chaitanyapur, established in 1994 and Seventy bedded unit at Chandi with government approval and is one of the 30 units of Vivekananda Mission Asram.
VMA NNN works with 40 free and 60 paying beds system. VMA NNN set up with Govt. approval in 1994 occupies a very significant place among the activities of the Mission Asram. It is providing eye care services to approx. 15 million rural poor populations in the surrounding areas. The hospital renders sub specialty services in Diabetic Retinopathy, Low Vision, Child Eye Care, Squint, Glaucoma, Contact Lenses, Cornea & Eye Bank.
Patients treated in OPD and outreach camps are around 2,30,000 and more than 20,000 surgeries are performed every year. It attracts patients from different districts of West Bengal, neighbouring states of Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura and the neighbouring country like Bangladesh .The high volume of service speaks for its quality and low cost facilities provided to the common people.
The Netra Niramay Niketan conducts observation / Training for ophthalmologist and paramedical staff and Ophthalmic nurses from different hospitals of different states and Bangladesh.
It renders regular services throughout the year by outreach screening camps and 18 vision centers through which 70,000 (approx.) out patients receive treatment and around 11,000 pts are brought to the base hospital per year for free surgeries. Camp services are free of cost. It also conducts School & ICDS Screening Programmes and renders services to around 50,000 children per year. Special outreach programme is conducted for Diabetic Retinopathy & Retinopathy Of Prematurity (ROP).
VMA Netra Niramaya Niketan provided quality refraction and cataract surgical services to the community. Gradually different sub-specialties were added from time to time according to the requirement of the community and now the hospital has been developed into a tertiary level hospital. Presently, glaucoma, medical retina, low vision contact lens and a child eye care departments are functioning at the hospital.
NNN has a team of 210 dedicated and qualified staff, including 18 full time residential doctors. The institute has built-up area of around 82,100 sq.ft. It is a 100-beded eye hospital, which has 40 free beds to provide medical care to underprivileged. Hospital has a load of approximately 350 OPD per day including 35 to 40 pediatric OPD. In 2018 VMANNN have conducted 20,003 surgeries. Hospital caters to approximately 10 million population and attracts patients from different districts of West Bengal, and neighboring states of Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and also from Bangladesh.
VMA NNN also holds screening camps for poor patients through which nearly 11,000 surgeries are conducted annually at base hospital. Their outreach activity and volunteers base in community is one of their strong areas. NNN has 12 vision centers and these vision centers are open 6 days a week managed by ophthalmic assistant. Vision centers have provided services to nearly 50,000 patients in year 2018. All vision centers are financially self-sustainable with more than 100 % cost recovery.
The hospital has a multi- tier pricing system to accommodate patients from different strata of the society. The hospital has separate facility for free and paying patients.
